Peter Gibbons is the City of Longmont, Colorado’s disaster recovery manager since 2016. Peter’s experience spans four declared disaster recoveries, including the 2013 flooding of Colorado’s front range cities and the Marshall Fire in Louisville, Colorado. As Longmont’s recovery manager, he has administered more than $70 million in disaster recovery funds and resilience-related projects. Peter has been applying Lean process improvement principles to disaster recovery since about 2017, lending to a uniquely efficient recovery process for his home city. As a result of Longmont’s work to build resilience for their whole community, they are now the first city in the U.S. to be named a United Nations Resilience Hub, for which they were recently named.
